OSHA 10-Hour Construction or General Industry
CareerSafe; OSHA Education Center
Practical uses
- 01
Qualify for job sites that require documented safety training before day one.
- 02
Spot and correct hazards on a crew, reducing injuries and lost time.
- 03
Move toward foreman or safety-lead roles that check others' compliance.
How to get it
- 1.
Choose the Construction or General Industry version based on your work environment — Construction covers scaffolding, fall protection, and excavation; General Industry covers machine guarding, hazardous materials, and walking-working surfaces.
- 2.
Enroll through an OSHA-authorized online outreach trainer. Verify the provider is listed on OSHA's authorized trainer database.
- 3.
Complete all 10 hours of training at your own pace, staying within OSHA's daily time limits.
- 4.
Pass the short module quizzes. There is no separate proctored exam gate.
- 5.
Download or receive your completion card. Keep it accessible — employers may ask for proof at site check-in.
Study tips
- Most employers accept the card with no expiration, but some state laws or owner sites require a card issued within the last 5 years.
- If you plan to advance to a lead role, take OSHA 30 next — it is the credential that unlocks supervisor-level work.
