OSHA 1910.146

- 03
Move toward foreman or safety-lead roles that check others' compliance.
How to get it
- 1.
Enroll in an OSHA 1910.146-compliant confined space entry course. Many are offered fully online with a short skills acknowledgment.
- 2.
Learn the permit system: how to read it, what atmospheric and physical hazards must be listed, and who the authorized entrant/attendant/supervisor is.
- 3.
Complete the coursework and pass the end-of-course quiz on hazard recognition and emergency response.
- 4.
Practice the real-world entry procedure with your on-site supervisor before your first actual entry.
- 5.
Receive your wallet card or certificate and refresh training annually, or sooner if procedures or hazards change.
Study tips
- Gas monitor calibration and bump testing matter more than memorization — employers watch how you check equipment.
- Never enter a permit space without an attendant and a communication plan; OSHA considers both mandatory.
