HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification
FoundationalPublic Service & Safety
OSHA 1910.120
Practical uses
- 01
Qualify for job sites that require documented safety training before day one.
- 02
Spot and correct hazards on a crew, reducing injuries and lost time.
- 03
Move toward foreman or safety-lead roles that check others' compliance.
How to get it
- 1.
Enroll in an OSHA-compliant 40-hour online course — no prerequisites.
- 2.
Complete the coursework and pass module quizzes at 70% or better.
- 3.
Separately arrange 3 days of in-person, supervised field training through your employer. OSHA requires this in addition to the online portion and it cannot be done remotely.
- 4.
Receive certification valid for 12 months.
- 5.
Maintain it with an annual 8-hour refresher.
Study tips
- Line up the employer-supervised field days before you pay for the online course — without them the certificate is incomplete.
- Study PPE levels A through D and decontamination line setup; those dominate the quizzes and the fieldwork.
